Pet-Friendly Hotel Database Makes Traveling with Fido Easier

Even your dog can get a good night's sleep on this bed

I have a large dog, and I know it’s not always possible to find hotels that can accommodate an 80-pound pooch. The frustrating thing about locating a pet-friendly hotel is that not every hotel in a certain chain will accept pets; just because you’ve stayed at one Holiday Inn with your pet doesn’t mean that all Holiday Inns accept pets.

Happily, I came across PetsWelcome.com, and it appears to be a thorough database of pet-friendly hotels. For example, take a look at all of the pet-friendly hotels listings they have for Atlanta, Georgia! 61 listings and counting. Better yet, they list helpful things such as information regarding whether or not the hotel provides pet beds, walking areas and exercise areas. Pretty cool.

I also like the fact that the site lists pet-friendly hotels by hotel chain on the front page. This means that you can quickly determine if you can get your hotel points and save on pet boarding at the same time! It’s a nice feature.

Obviously, it’s a good idea to actually call the hotel before you go to make sure the site has the facts correct. From past experience, here are some things to ask the front desk before bringing Fido with you on vacation:

1. Ask about the dog weight limit policy. We had a problem with this once, and there’s no much you can do to convince the hotel that your 80-pound dog is less than 40 pounds.

2. Ask about if there’s any insurance coverage for accidental damage to the room caused by your dog.

3. Ask if there are safe places to walk/exercise your dog near the hotel.

Safe and happy travels for you and your pooch!
